IAEM Indonesia National Representative Steve Buxton reports: ‘Approximately 25 attendees for our 22 June meeting in Jakarta. A really good turn out, the best one yet. We ran out of chairs as stragglers came in! The focus was a presentation by Dr. Eric Guite of Global Assistance and Healthcare http://www.global-assistance.net, describing the activities of a medical assistance company in a disaster in Indonesia. Great interaction and questions from many of the participants. We had new faces in the audience along with many others who have attended previous IAEM sessions.

IAEM Philippines National Representative Arnel Capili reports:’So many people registered to come to IAEM Philippines’ second networking meeting on 2 June 2010, we turned people away! Dr. Rene Solidum, Director of the Philippines Institute of Volcanology described lessons for scientists and disaster managers from the Haiti and Chilean earthquakes. Engr. Rannie Ison of the Association of Structural Engineers explained protocols for rapid assessment of the structural integrity of facilities after an earthquake. Alex Pastrana of Jorge, Pastrana & Associates shared his experiences setting up Incident Command Posts. A good mix of public- and private-sector participants.’
